Academic Care

At FICS we want our students to aspire to be the best that they can be. This can be seen in our vision and values, our commitment to pastoral care, and the curriculum we provide. Students have learning embedded in our local context and community, and students develop a sense of pride about their heritage.

During their time at FICS we aim to instil a love of learning which will continue far beyond year 11. We are a small school but we provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities, clubs, and trips to support students in finding their passion. We provide significant support with small class sizes, a dedicated SEND team, and strong community links to enable each child to make good progress.

Schools are more than the sum of their parts. Students learn continuously throughout each and every day: they learn from the language and behaviours of others, as well as planned lesson content. At FICS we consider the holistic education of students and use opportunities such as assemblies and tutor time to support the social and emotional learning of students in addition to academic curriculum lessons.

We continuously evaluate the provision we provide by seeking formal feedback from students and parents, as well as using external, standardised data to measure progress and attainment. Using the GL suite of data: PASS, CAT4, and PTM/PTE/PTS, we have good information regarding the attainment levels of our students in each year. This supports key interventions and school priorities, both in academic learning and attitudes and beliefs.

Our curriculum addresses the needs of the community, with a strong focus on literacy. You can find out more about our drive to improve levels of literacy in the Knowledge Organisers section.
