GCSE Options Process
Students in year 9 choose GCSE options towards the end of the year. The process is as follows:
Term 2
1. The careers team speak to students about GCSE options and requirements for future careers. This takes place in PSHE lessons.
2. Subjects teachers speak to students in lessons about specific subject options at GCSE. This might be in the form of an overview, or a short 'taster lesson'.
3. Parents come in for Parents' Evening to meet with individual subject teachers and discuss their child's readiness for GCSE study in that subject.
Term 3
1. GCSE Options Evening is held for parents and students to see the options available and discuss with subject specialists.
2. Parents and students take the Options booklet home for further reading and discussion.
3. Students choose their four options from the blocks available.
4. Students have a 1:1 conversations with a senior leader about their choices, the rationale for it, and their preparedness for learning.
5. Option possibilities are finalised and subject choices are shared with students and families.
