House System
The house system at Falkland Islands Community School is a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering well-rounded, confident, and capable young individuals. Through participation in house activities, students cultivate essential qualities that support both their personal and academic growth.
Every student is assigned to one of three houses—Ross, Shackleton, or Fitzroy—upon enrolment. Students can earn house points through exemplary performance in lessons, active participation in extracurricular activities and success in inter-house competitions. This system not only motivates students to strive for excellence but also fosters a strong sense of belonging and teamwork.
Each house is led by a dedicated Head of House, who plays a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the students. The Heads of House provide leadership, mentorship, and encouragement, helping students navigate their academic and personal development. They ensure that every student feels valued and empowered to contribute to their house's success.
Inter-house competitions run throughout the year. Through a variety of activities and events, students have opportunities to excel, challenge themselves, and showcase their talents.
Participation in house competitions nurtures essential life skills such as respect, resilience, and curiosity—our core values here at FICS. Respect is cultivated as students work together, support each other, and celebrate their collective achievements. Resilience is strengthened through perseverance in the face of challenges, helping students develop a strong, determined character. Curiosity is encouraged as students explore new activities, engage in diverse competitions, and broaden their horizons.
