Subject Specific Vocabulary
Booklets are provided to students each half-term and contain lists of key terminology and vocabulary which will be necessary for them to succeed in each of their subjects. These are usually lists of tier 3 vocabulary, but may include tier 2 vocabulary for some subjects, depending on how the terms are used in that discipline. Students must learn these terms to support their knowledge acquisition and literacy, across every subject.
At the end of each half-term, students in Years 7-11 will complete an assessment based on their Subject Specific Vocabulary. In the first half-term this will only have 20 questions, but in later tests the vocabulary tested will be cumulative; that is: they will feature the most recent content as well as some from the previous booklets. This is important to ensure that students move the information they have learned to their long term memory and are able to retrieve it in the future. Learning content for the short term only is not useful for long term success.
