The Falkland Islands National Speaking Competition

The Falkland Islands National Speaking Competition took place this week and was a great success!
In order to qualify for the national final, students needed to win their competition at the local level, then proceed to a regional round, and place in the top three to be selected for the national finals.
Students from year 2 to year 9 took part, with different criteria and expectations appropriate for their age and stage. The oldest students wrote speeches up to ten minutes long, which they had edited, practised, and learnt, along with appropriate staging to meet the needs of the audience.
The younger students were tasked with learning and reciting a poem or rhyme, which they did with great enthusiasm and success.
The final judging criteria balanced the content, quality of vocabulary, and performance of the individual. It ended up being a very tight competition, making it very hard for the judges to choose a final winner!
Congratulations go to:
Overall National Champion: Shammah Tandare
FICS 1st place: Chloe Esperanza Lasala
IJS+CE 1st place: Rory Eccles
FICS Runner Up: Joey Curtis
IJS +CE Runner Up: Theo Young and Cardarie Regalado
