Travel and Tourism Trip Returns
Over the half-term break, our GCSE Travel and Tourism students travelled to London with a packed itinerary to learn from our links in the UK. For some of our students, even arriving in London was quite an adventure, and lots of learning took place just navigating trains. As well as becoming experts on the tube system, a tour of central London on a big red bus set the scene for the trip.
Students of course visited the FIGO office in London and learnt from the staff there about their work. This included how the Falkland Islands plans for and measures tourism in the islands, as well as the importance of the camp community for tourism.
Students had the opportunity to travel around different key spots in the UK, meeting with government groups and individuals to better understand the work of tourism. This supports the theoretical learning that students undertake in class and helps to make their learning transferrable to different contexts.
Our students were fantastic throughout and represented FICS as role models for the islands. Well done to all of you, and thank you the staff who organised and accompanied the trip.
A massive thank you to all in the community who helped us make this happen for our students: Consolidated Fisheries Limited Fortuna Ltd Group International Tours & Travel, Falkland Islands Falklands 4x4 Malvina House Hotel Chandlery Supermarket Penguin Travel and Pioneer Seafoods.
